The recipe for a great shape – full body awareness

By February 27, 2017No Comments

unnamed-2I’ve been talking about getting things going here in the movement department for a while, you all know how i feel about this, and getting you some of my favourite simple exercises I work into my dailies that target some of my favourite areas.

The thing is, I think the recipe to a great body inside and out is two fold. And needs to be addressed before we work on anything… we must…

  1. Keep our body guessing, and have
  2. Full body awareness

Truth is I work out a lot. I’m not going to lie. I’m also not going to apologize for it. Its what my body was both meant to do and also what it thrives on. I tend to do cardio 5-6 days a week spin or running,  strength and conditioning usually Lagree, yoga 3-4 times a week, then my new favourite…boxing. Oh I’ll be talking about more of that some too. This is my program, and may not be for you. Or maybe it is,

But regardless… how much I do, none of it would be nearly as beneficial or at all, if I didn’t have those two components above. Lets go a little deeper

Keep Your Body Guessing

I am both a big believer in becoming an expert at something and really submerging yourself in something, but, also mixing it up. If you are constantly learning. Your body is not going to become complacent. New muscle, new neuropathways, new shape.

What does that mean for you? Well, no matter how much you do something, your body can not only get bored but also lack results and resiliency based on this very fact. This means less progress, be it weight loss, muscle definition, repair, and growth. It also keeps you nimble not only on your feet but in your mind. This also adds the overall burn metabolically and the gains physiologically.

Full Body Awareness

I don’t know how many times I see someone doing something, just for the sake of doing and getting it over with. The problem with this is that 1, you are not giving yourself the benefit of the doubt, yes you CAN actually do it 2, You are actually making it harder for yourself 3, You will get an injury…eventually. and lastly 4, You will not see the results you want without the proper FORM!

So what can you do?

A) Get in touch with your body, Easier said then done, I know.

But really the benefits are multi-factoral. Feel it, engage it.

-maybe through meditation,

-pushing yourself. really pushing yourself.

-trying new things

-expecting more for yourself

-taking it SLOW!

B) Learning core engagement.

No not Sit-ups. I don’t know the last time I did that. When you are engaging your core, you are not only feeling the burn everywhere …but in the right places. Oh and you will reduce injury.

See someone that knows whats up an expert in the field. When I think think of this, there is only one that comes to mind but that of Katie McKenzie. Not only is she undeniably beautiful, smart and so knowledgable, but she is so unapologetically passionate and believes in this stuff that she can transform your guts quite literally.

There is so much to do, learn, and explore out there, but when we take different approaches to experiencing, the benefit is so doubled. I have felt I had abs for my whole life, and then I found my core. Two totally different things! Again, thanks to Katie. Next up is exploring the pelvic floor.

I’m going to post about some of my favourite core exercises. One’s that define, tone, burn and show and feel benefits.

So hard core….coming next
