We are a culture filled with quick fixes.

Crash diets, plastic surgery, hit hard, pay for it later. Food is no different, if not a more extreme example of this.

What if we start approaching things a bit different. Cleaning the mess as we go. An attitude of inclusiveness and choice, and also great care.

“Cleansing” or at least what we know it as today…doesn’t completely work for me. Why? Well, to be honest, my body is cleansing every day. Do I eat very “clean” regularly, yes. And for the most part maybe I’m at the point where I don’t require long vegetable/juice fasts. But our bodies are so well equipped to pick up and rid itself of what is not necessary when we are treating it well…..on a regular basis

So how do we do that?

Well, it’s not a simple answer and one over time we can chat about. But to begin with we start by incorporating more whole foods into our life and adding specific cleansing foods regularly as opposed to when we feel as though its necessary to clean up our act.

Stuff like this soup. Tons of greens, liver loving greens, garlic and onions, and enough taste to not feel deprived in any which way.

I love this soup. You can add it as a base to a rice bowl or salad bowl, or have on its on. But regardless you will absolutely feel the deep clean benefits from this type of recipe

***USE Nettles, dandelion greens or any other of your favourite seasonal spring cleansers to add a hit of health***

RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

1 yellow Onion

3-4 cloves of Garlic

1 Tbls Coconut Oil

150g fresh Spinach

1 bunch of Watercress

1 bunch of Parsley

2 cups Vegetable Broth

2 cups plus of water

1 can of Coconut Milk

1 thumb of Ginger

2 tsp Spirulina

Salt & Pep

METHOD

Chop your Onion and garlic. Nothing fancy, it will all get blended anyways

Heat your medium-large soup pot over medium heat. Add your onions and garlic along with your coconut oil

Cook down 5-7 minutes until soft and tender. Season with salt

Add in your spinach, Parsley and Watercress. These will all lose volume quickly and steam down. You want to cook down until at least half the liquid is absorbed.

Add in your liquids and bring to a boil.

You can either use an immersion blender, or a vitamix and do in batches. Either way works beautifully.

In the end add in your spirulina and combine well. Serve and enjoy.
